Snow Buntings
These Snow Buntings were seen in Heckscher Park, where apparently they often are. I was told that occasionally a Lapland Longspur can be spotted among a flock of Snow Buntings, but I didn't see one in this particular flock. Because Snow Buntings swirl as they fly, they are sometimes called "snowflakes." Click on my link to watch a video of them in flight: http://youtu.be/9OeFPI7ZEeA
Today I saw a Great Blue Heron in action. When I see them they are usually just standing motionless in water waiting for a fish to come their way. This one, however, was actively fishing and he was able to catch a few fish during the time I watched him. Here is a video of this Great Blue Heron fishing http://youtu.be/dRf_xUIXRuk
A Hermit Thrush at Bunces Bridge in the Connetquot River State Park. These birds are normally the only thrushes that can be found in North America during the winter.
This is a website about the nature I see during my walks in my hometown of Oakdale, and surrounding areas in New York. Many of the photos are taken in the Connetquot River State Park and Heckscher State Park which are two of my favorite local parks.
