A Resting Spot

Whenever I see this rest spot along the Long Island Greenbelt Trail, I wish I had been more interested in hiking and photography when the trail was in better condition. The spot must have been lovely when the Eagle Scout completed the project. It is hard to see in the photo but behind the bench there are remnants of what was once a garden. Although there is something a bit charming about places that time and nature are reclaiming, I still wish I had seen this rest stop in its heyday.

A Bird and a Turtle

I think the bird is a Hairy Woodpecker, but I'm not certain. Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers look a lot alike to me.  I saw him in Heckscher State Park.  The turtle I came across as I was walking along the Greenbelt Trail at Westbrook Pond.

Osprey

They're back! This osprey nest is between parking lots 7 and 8 in Heckscher State Park.  It's one of my favorite spots when the ospreys are there.

Box Turtle in Heckscher State Park

I saw this box turtle today on the Greenbelt Trail in Heckscher State Park.  First one I have seen this season. I hope to see many more.
