Connetquot River State Park Fish Hatchery

I went back to Connetquot River State Park, my old stomping grounds. The fish hatchery which had been closed for the many years is open once again and well stocked with trout.  There is even a fish food vending machine, and if you have a quarter, you can feed the fish. Unfortunately for the fish, I didn't have any quarters. Next time I'll come prepared.

Swallows Again at Heckscher State Park

Today there were flocks of tree swallows again at Heckscher State Park. This time I was seeing them not just in trees, but also on the roadway. I chose to walk on the grass instead of the street to avoid them, but they took off anyway.

Swallows Migrating

I admit that the photo isn't good, but if you look closely at the gray sky you'll see black dots. Those dots are tree swallows.  Tree swallows apparently like to head to beaches to fuel up on gnats, mosquitoes and other beach insects when migrating. This photo was taken at Heckscher State Park near the shoreline.

Blue Claw Crab Swimming

In the boat launch area at Heckscher State Park, I saw this blue claw crab swimming near the surface of the water. In the early evening hours this is a popular spot for crabbing, but I was there in the morning and lucky for him I'm not a crabber.
