Late Day Walk

I have mentioned in previous posts that the sky can be quite beautiful in Heckscher State Park.  Above is another example of why I say this. I added the photo of the snapping turtle because it was another highlight of the walk. Seeing both was a perfect start to the weekend.

Eight-spotted forester

The above photo was not taken at any of the local parks. I saw this eight-spotted forester moth in my front garden and took the photo with my phone. This is the first time I've seen one of these. Apparently they lay their eggs on grapevines and Virginia creeper. I don't have grapevines, but I do have plenty of Virginia creeper vines which I seem to be constantly pulling up. Perhaps now I'll keep a few Virginia creeper vines for these jolly looking moths.

Eastern Wood-Pewee Again

Today I saw and heard again the Eastern Wood-Pewee. He was in the same area flitting back and forth to several trees which line the bicycle path

Eastern Wood-Pewee

For the past couple of weeks I have been seeing and hearing a bird in the same spot in Heckscher State Park. In the beginning, I didn't know what it was, so I took a few photos and recorded its song. It had a unique call, therefore I thought I had a good chance in figuring out what bird it was. With a little research, I have come to the conclusion that it is an Eastern Wood-Pee.
